If you are considering moving to Montgomery County, Maryland today, we’re gonna cover the cost of living as well as other important factoids that you need to kind of weigh out in deciding whether or not you even wanna move here.

First of all, Montgomery county is expensive. It’s one of the more expensive areas to live in the entire country. Over my career, I’ve worked with many people and families moving into Montgomery county. There’s no question that if you’re moving in from either the Midwest or the south, most likely you are in for a shock.

If you’re relocating from areas like New York, Northern New Jersey, Boston, or places like LA San Fran or Seattle, you actually might be like a kid in a candy store. So let’s buckle up and discuss the cost of living as well as other important factors that you need to take into consideration before you move here.

First things First, Montgomery County is a large county. There are over 1 million residents who call Montgomery County their home. It’s actually the largest county by population in all of Maryland. Let’s talk about housing. The median cost for a home in Montgomery County, Maryland is $560,100 compared to an average of $291,700 in the United States. That’s 52% higher. The median household income in Montgomery County is $131,000 compared to the average in the United States, which is $57,600. The median income in Montgomery County, Maryland is 56% higher than the median income throughout the United States.

The median age in Montgomery county is 39 years old. The average annual amount of rain in Montgomery county is 43 inches in comparison to the United States at 39 inches. So it rains maybe a little bit more here than in other parts of the country. The average snowfall in Montgomery County, Maryland is 18 inches per year in comparison to the average US, which is 28 inches. Now I’ve lived in Montgomery County, my whole life. And I have to tell you, I’m not quite sure that we get 18 inches of snow each year, some years we’ve had plenty, but I have to tell you the last four to five years, we’ve hardly had any snow here.

So 18 inches seems a little high to me, but I’m just reading off the facts. Sticking with the weather. The average high temperature is 87 degrees in the month of July. The average cold temperature is 25 degrees in the month of January. And lastly, homeowners make up 68% of all res in Montgomery county whereas renters make up about 32%. So there you have it. I put it all out there. Montgomery County, no question is expensive, but part of that reason is there’s a huge demand to live here. Montgomery County has a thriving job market, highly ranked schools, a top hospital, and three major airports within 30 to 40 minutes. So while I love Montgomery County, Maryland, it’s always nice to know that when I’m ready to get outta Dodge, it’s easy. So there you have it.

If you are thinking of moving to Montgomery County I would love to help you out.
