One tip I give my clients is to rent for three to six months before taking the plunge to see if a new area feels right. You’ll get to know the rhythm, the people, and the vibe. If you love it, great—sell your home and move. If not, no harm done, and you didn’t sell everything on a whim.
Lie #2: You’ll Instantly Feel at Home
One of the biggest misconceptions is that you’ll feel right at home as soon as you move. The truth is, adjusting takes time. You might feel a bit out of place at first, but with an open mind and a willingness to get involved in the community, you’ll find your place. Step outside your comfort zone, try new things, and immerse yourself in the local culture.

Take the time to research the cost of living in your new area, and make sure it fits your budget. A short three to four-day trip to the area can also help you scope out neighborhoods and housing options in person.

Many people fear that moving means losing touch with friends and family. But with technology and easier travel, staying connected has never been easier. Plus, a new location gives you a chance to expand your social circle and meet new people. Often, once you move, others follow—whether it’s family or neighbors who want to join you in your new paradise.
