Moving to Rockville, Maryland: Insider Info on House Prices and More

Are you thinking about moving to Rockville, Maryland?

Today I’m gonna give you quite a bit of information about Rockville including eight things that you need to know before you move to Rockville. So a little background, Rockville is a city, approximately 15 miles north of Washington, DC and it serves as the county seat of Montgomery County, Maryland. Rockville is home to approximately 70,000 residents and is at the heart of the technology corridor along I-2-70. So now that I’ve given you a little bit of background, let’s talk about eight things that you need to know about Rockville before you move here. 

1)Housing: The housing in Rockville is very diverse. You have everything from historical homes built in the 18 hundreds to planned communities like king farm falls Grove and Rockville town center. In these communities, you’re gonna have not only retail but dining and shopping within the community. If larger homes with more space and acreage are your thing. Rockville can also produce as well. You can find many of these as eight-type homes on the east and west sections of Rockville bordering towns like Derwood and all as well as Potomac and North Potomac. 

While the home values in Montgomery county are pretty high, Rockville is quite a bit less than the neighbouring town of Bethesda and a little bit more than the neighbouring town to the north Gaithersburg Rockville home values can range. I’d say anywhere from $200,000 up to about $2 million per statistics found in bright MLS. The average home sale in Rockville in 2020 was $555,500. 

The average single-family home sale in Rockville in 2020 was $646,800. The average attached sale, meaning townhomes and condominiums was $458,100 in 2020. 

2) Dining: In Rockville, you will find many large chain restaurants as well as many smaller, independent and ethnic restaurants along Rockville pike. There are also many newer and upscale options available in areas like king farm and pike and rose. One of my favourite hidden gems in Rockville is ill piece ago. Admittedly, this restaurant is not very well marked. And when you drive up to it, you might wanna think about turning around, but don’t, it’s a 4.5 rating on Yelp and we Montgomery county people know that it’s a definite must.

3) Shopping: There are tons of shopping in Rockville. There are many big-box retailers. Some of these retailers are gonna be Home Depot,  Staples, as well as Best Buy. You’ll also find many boutiquey places in places like Pike and Rose,  Rockville town center, as well as many strip malls, you’ll find a long Rockville pike. So when it comes to food and shopping, you have many options. You have everything from giant food and pharmacy to whole foods to trader Joe’s as well as many ethnic markets. 

4) Commuting: Montgomery County and the DC area are pretty well known for high traffic and heavy congestion. There are many different options in choices when it comes to commuting in Rockville. Once again, Rockville runs right along the I-2 70 corridor, depending on your location in Rockville, you can get to it in as little as two minutes, and maybe as long as 20 to 25 minutes. Rockville Pike is also a major thoroughfare that runs from Washington, DC, all the way up to Frederick.

However, I will prepare you. There are a lot of lights along the way the ICC or inner county connector can also be accessed very easily from Rockville. ICC traffic always moves quickly, and it’s a real quick jump to I-95 for going to places like Baltimore, Philadelphia, or New York.

5) Public transportation: There’s a ride-on bus system as well as three metro stops in Rockville. You’ve got the shady Grove Metro station, the Rockville Metro station and the Twinbrook Metro station. There’s also a mark train stop at the Rockville train station, which commuters real quickly from Rockville all the way down as far as union station in Washington, DC.

6)Businesses: Rockville and Montgomery County are really well known for their biotechnology companies as well as IT and software companies.

Some of the largest employers in Rockville are the John’s Hopkins, Lockheed Martin, Booz Allen, and Hamilton west at FINRA. Rockville is also home to the national cancer institute, the University of Maryland, the Shady Grove campus, as well as the nuclear regulatory commission. So while there are many employment opportunities in Rockville, once again, there are also many in the surrounding towns of Rockville, and of course in Washington, DC.

7) Hospitals: While there are many excellent hospitals in Montgomery county in the surrounding DC area, Rockville is home to the advent shady Grove medical center, shady Grove hospital. As we call it is actually a five-star hospital and a recent 2020 winner of the com Baldridge award. This is the highest recognition that a corporation or organization can receive. So while no one wants to go to the hospital, it’s comforting to know that great care is in your own backyard.

8) Recreation: There’s tons of outdoor recreation in Rockville, Maryland. You have public golf courses like Redgate and Needwood. There are also many parks and lakes for fishing, boating, hiking, and biking. Two of my favourite spots, since I was a kid, were lake Frank and lake Needwood.
